How Rare Kind works

Listing items, fees, payouts, photos, and Front Row.

Who can sell on Rare Kind?
Anyone based in the UK — individuals clearing out their wardrobe, sole traders, and registered companies. You'll go through a one-off Stripe verification to confirm your identity and set up payouts; for companies, we also check your Companies House number.
How do I list something?
From your seller dashboard, tap "New listing", add photos, fill in the details (department, category, size, brand, condition, price), and publish. A listing needs at least one photo before it goes live.
Do I need to be a registered business to sell?
No. Individuals and sole traders are welcome. Some tools — like bulk CSV import — are scoped to registered-company sellers for now, since they're most useful for sellers with existing stock across other marketplaces.
What does it cost?
Listing items is free. When something sells, you receive the full item price — Rare Kind earns from the buyer protection fee paid by the buyer at checkout, and we absorb Stripe's card processing fee out of that rather than deducting it from your payout. Postage is also paid by the buyer and used by us to buy the shipping label, so you don't pay postage out of pocket either. No subscription fees.
When do I get paid?
Your payout is held until the buyer confirms the item arrived, or automatically releases after the post-delivery hold — 2 days for individual (private) sellers, 14 days for business sellers (the extra time covers the statutory 14-day cancellation right). Once released it lands in your linked bank account on Stripe's usual schedule — typically two working days.
Can I use photos from the brand's website or other listings?
No. Listing photos have to be your own — taken by you, of the actual item you're selling. That means no pulling images from the brand's site, lookbooks, Google Images, or another seller's Depop / Vinted / eBay listing. Using someone else's photos is a copyright infringement and gets the listing removed; repeats lead to account suspension. It's fine (and expected) for the brand label, logo, or care tag to appear in your photo of the real item. See the IP policy for the full rules.
What is Front Row?
A paid promotion for your whole shop. For £5.99 you get 7 days of priority placement — every active listing you have sorts above non-promoted listings in search, the feed, and category pages, and wears a Front Row badge. Start or extend it from your seller dashboard. Renew within 7 days of a run ending and you get 15% off the next week.
Can I get a refund on Front Row?
No. Front Row is a digital service that starts the moment you pay, so the 14-day change-of-mind right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 doesn't apply — by buying it you're asking us to begin supplying it immediately. We can't refund a promotion week that's already started. If something's actually gone wrong (your shop wasn't prioritised, the badge isn't showing), email us and we'll make it right.
Does Front Row guarantee sales?
No. It buys visibility, not sales. Your items still have to be priced realistically, described well, and photographed well to sell. Think of it as a boost rather than a guarantee.
How do price-drop notifications to buyers work?
If you reduce the price on an active listing, every buyer who favourited it gets a notification showing the old price, the new price, and the savings. It's automatic — no button to press. It only fires when the price goes down, not up, and only on active listings (not drafts or sold).
How do bundle-discount notifications to followers work?
When you publish or improve your bundle discount, everyone who follows you gets a notification with a link to build a bundle. "Improve" means the top tier percent_off goes up, or you introduce a policy where there was none. We deliberately don't notify when you lower the discount or drop a tier.
